SOMATICO-BURLESQUE EDUCATION WORKSHOP – THE BEAUTY OF THE BODY AND THE GAZE

Somatic Education, which will be at the heart of this series of workshops, is the disciplinary field of methods concerned with the dynamic relationships between body movement, consciousness, learning and environment. The notion of soma refers to the total experience of the body lived from within.

The aim is to use Somatic Education as a vehicle for bodily diversity and to combat the concept of the ideal body through burlesque dance.

The workshops will be divided into two parts: the first will be devoted to Somatic Education exercises in connection with burlesque dance, where students will be introduced to a touch-based pedagogy developed by the teacher herself. Beginning with self-touch, then shared touch with a mediator object, and finally without a mediator object, students will learn to establish clear, sensitive tactile communication, in order to reclaim their bodies, modify their perception of body image and thus gain greater confidence in themselves and others. The aim is to establish a real, somatic touch. The second part of the workshop is devoted to practical application, through traverses and dance explorations.

$60 for 3 sessions, $25 each
